I know a manhattan has vermouth, whiskey and bitters in it, but I have no clue what to say when I order one. Also, what kinds of places can I order(should I) one of these - like a lounge etc?

thanks!!

  1. You can order it at any bar ... and just order a manhattan.  It's a pretty standard, common drink

  2. All you say is can i have a manhattan? and you can order them at any bar! =)

  3. most bars have the ingredients, you just need to specify what type of whiskey you like (I like k**b creek), and if you want it "up" (chilled, without ice, strained into a martini glass), or "on the rocks" (served over ice).

for instance, "maker's mark manhattan on the rocks" will get your point across just fine.

  4. Depends on whether or not you want it neat or on the rocks or dry.  Dry would be with dry vermouth instead of sweet vermouth, neat would be straight up, chilled would be strained after icing, on the rocks would be with ice.  It's your preference, and you can order them anywhere that serves alcohol. Also know that there are different types that do not have to include bourbon or vermouth.

Applejack manhattans, for example... contain 2 oz Applejack® brandy

    1/2 oz sweet vermouth

    1 dash orange bitters

All depends on what you like.
