  1. The amount you order depends on how hungry you are. The idea behind tapas bars is to be able to sample a variety of food. 2 tapas are usually enough for 1 person, but it's better to go with a group. That way, each person can sample different tapas. That way, you can try different foods and see what you like, and next time, you'll know exactly what to order. Also, always ask your server what he or she recommends. Enjoy!

  2. order as you go..  ask the server what are special menu items..  ask if there is a house wine or sangria..  that is usually a good bet..  my favorite things to order are usually

    cheeses

    olives

    garlic shrimp

and sop up the liquid from the shrimp with the bread..  yum!

if each person picks 1 or 2 things that is a good way to start off..  size of the portion may vary..

  3. My experience has been that Tapas are best enjoyed with a small group of friends. Since every restaurants portions are different, there's no absolute answer on how many dishes to order. Your server should be able to help you with that.

Some Tapas restaurants offer large plates as well as small plates. All can be shared, and if at first, you don't order enough, you can always order more. Just keep in mind that there may be a lag between dishes because other tables are ordering as well.

I can't help you with the wine since we don't really drink. I imagine that if the company, the food and the conversation are good, then you can expect to have a long leisurely meal with either bottles or glasses of wine.

When I've gone to Tapas restaurants, I ask the server to stop me when they think I've ordered enough dishes. I start with dishes that I "must have" first, and then work my way through the menu. We never order more than one of anything to start but if we find something to be really yummy, we may order more.

It's also a good idea to see what's being delivered to other tables. If your neighbors appear friendly, ask them what they got, otherwise just ask your server.

    Bon appetit!
