How do I organize messages from group members?

If people post different messages that fall under the same topic--but have not responded to a topic, is there a way to retroactively group them into different folders?

  1. It sounds like the participants in your Group need a bit of guidance :-)

I am surprised, though, to hear that most post inappropriate messages in the same thread (Topic). What I see more often are messages that should be included in the original Topic, but that have broken off and started their own thread. These kind of messages make my life, and others probably, more difficult, because they lack the proper context.

For example, if the message starts out by saying "I agree" the readers may have no idea what the poster is agreeing with if the original message is not to be found.

  2. there is no way to do this unless you remove them to the correct topic and delete the out of place one.

depending on how members read and reply, you may want to point out options for members and explain things to them. members don't at all see things as owners do.  some never see that topic tab on the homepage. some members are not as savy as others and just post off the first thing they see. if you explain to members how you want it, that'll help greatly

  3. Groups have no feature to allow us to retroactively group them into different folders.  If the members do not reply to a topic but instead, post a new message with a similar title,  their message will not be included in the topic string.  Group messages can be viewed by Topic - click on "View by Topic" in the heading at top of messages on each page.  Even using this, it could pull up old messages that bear the same description as newer ones.  I hope this makes sense to you.
