How do I overcome being nervous during oral presentations?

I get great grades but I am terrible when it comes to presenting anything orally. The saying, picture everyone in their underwear does not work for me. I ALWAYS get super nervous. I start to sweat & shake when I have to present or do something orally in front of my class. I am in middle school & I am so sick of being so scared. Even when I just have to read a sentence I start to silently freak out. How can I get rid of this annoying prob.?

  1. I know it's very nerve racking standing up in front of a group of people, but I know that with practice it gets easier. Here is my advice for you:

Whenever I present, I don't look at people. I pick a spot on the back wall and I stare at it.

It is also very important to remember to breathe. Especially take deep breaths before your presentation.

If need be, practice in the mirror.

It is also important, that you get more comfortable with yourself. If you gain more confidence, it will be easier to demonstrate that confidence in front of other people. Maybe start by talking people about their interests. If you think about it this way, presenting is like having a conversation with the audience, but they are letting you speak.

When in doubt, always remember that other people are probably just as nervous as you are.

I hope this has helped. Good luck on your next presentation.
