How do I pack my son a grilled cheese sandwich for school?

This is what he wants for tomorrows lunch. Does it need to be kept cold? I don't think he'll mind if it's cold..or can I leave the freezer pack out of his lunchbag? Will it go bad? I'd prefer for him to have it at least room temp. He's in kindergarten so no way for him to warm it up.

Thank you!

  1. It will be fine. besides, he's 5 and probably still eats dirt.  I would just send it with an icepack just in case.

  2. when I was in kindergarden we ate  early so make the grilled cheese and put it tin foil.  It might be still somewhat warm when he eats it

  3. Stick it in the freezer after you make it and it should thaw out in the lunch box by lunch time!

  4. Being a good mom is a hard job.  To deliever the job, I would just make it an hour before his lunch time and have it delievered to his school.  (if you have a free time for that... knowing many parents have jobs)

  5. as a connoisseur of grilled cheese sandwiches, i can confidently say that they are really gross if they aren't freshly eaten, no matter how you try to package it. make him a pb&j for his lunch because they keep a lot better in a lunch box. get up and make the grilled cheese for breakfast before you send him to school. he will get the freshest most love filled grilled cheese sandwich.

  6. it should be fine if it is not a hot day. But if it is just put an ice pack in with it. He will either eat it and ask for it again (everyday for the next 5 years if he is like my son lol) or it will come home and he will just leave that idea for lunch at home.

  7. eww thats freakin nasty i make them all the time. and i'll only eat them if their fresh cus they get hard.  dont be lazy make him something else ham sanwhich peanut butter and jelly.  u have so many options. just think would u want to eat a old sanwhich?

  8. cow's milk products always need refrigeration.  start having the child help pack his lunch tomorrow -this will allow you more sleep time.

  9. Ick.  I don't like the idea of cheese sitting out for more than a couple hours.  You may just have to tell him that grilled cheese can be his snack for after school.

  10. I would send it with a small ice pack

  11. A grilled cheese is meant to be eaten hot and fresh. Just tell your kid that grilled cheese cannot be packed for lunch. it's just weird. Maybe offer to let him buy a hot lunch once in a while.

  12. I would toast the bread instead of grilling it so the bread doesn't get all soggy with butter. Then double wrap it in  aluminum foil. I wouldn't put an ice pack near it and it will probably be a little warm or at least room temperature byt the time he is ready to eat it. Thanks for being such a good mom!

  13. it will be fine at room temp, so just cook it up the night before and leave it in the fridge. In the morning just bag it up and toss it in his lunch bag.
