Question:

How do I pack teacups and saucers for postage?

I have 4 teacup and saucers that I am selling on eBay. I have advertised that they can be posted as I have seen others with postage for similar items. I thought I would wrap each piece in bubble wrap and then fill a box with foam chips. Do you think this will be OK? Has anyone sent anything similar through the post and how did you do it?

  1. yes sounds like you have the right idea.  But I would make sure that you put tissue, or a packing peanut in the loop of the handle to give it some stability.  The handles are the biggest break hazard.

  2. That's probably fine. The real trick to packaging is making sure that the impulse caused by the box's potential collision, and you do this by increasing the amount of time the object spends undergoing negative acceleration. Physics aside, a couple layers of bubble wrap and a box full of packing peanuts should be fine. Make sure the box is large enough that the pieces aren't pressed up against the side though, that kind of defeats the purpose of the peanuts.
