Question:

How do I paint a room? What are the steps? What should I look out for?

I am thinking of painting part of a wall--a recessed portion of the wall--a pale modern, subtle, urban, soothing, serene, sophisticated gray.

I don't know how to start. Can you help guide me through the steps and pitfalls?

Thank you

  1. Sure - start with a good quality paint and check the paint samples to make sure you pick the perfect color.  Buy supplies: blue painters tape, paint tray, roller, brush, and plastic sheet to put on the floor.  Start by using the painters tape to tape around all of the non-recessed edges of the wall that you don't want to get paint on.  Stir the paint.  Use the brush to go around all of the corners and edges.  Try not to slop it on too thick or it will seep under the tape.  Then pour the paint in the tray and use the roller to finish the rest.  Don't get the roller to coated in paint or it will splatter as you roll.  Then, wait several hours until the paint is dry and repeat with a second coat.  Remove the tape slowly and carefully before the paint is completely dry.  That's it!

If you drip any paint on the floor or un-painted part of the wall, wipe it up immediately with a damp paper towel.

  2. clean your walls, paint it with a primer, and then paint it with the color that you want. tape off everything you dont want panted. good luck

  3. latex  is more common as for the finish it depends on what you want but generally bedroom and living room would be flat or satin.  kitchen and bathroom would be semi gloss.  trim would always be a semigloss.

  4. make sure ur 1st coat of paint is done well. paint it in lanes, so u know where the paint begins and ends dont go mad in different directions.

if u are goin to use tape make sure the paint is dry bfeore u rip it off. if u got a steady hand just use a small brush to cut into the sides and edges. save u havin to use tape, ALWAYS- have wet wipe ready, cos if u smudge anywhwere its da quickest way to wipe it off!

if ur plannin to start again the next day soak ur brush in water for normal wall paint or spirit for gloss paint, this way ur brushes stay easy to work with. good luck!! :)

  5. first i would use a water base paint, then pick a color, prep the wall, sand, patch holes, tape areas , trims you dont want paint on, use drop cloth on the ground - use a primer coat first, use a light color, let dry, then paint your selected color, 2 -3 coats, use a roller thats faster, then brush the trim areas

  6. 1.- Move out and/or cover the furniture and floor.

2.- Every wall and silling that you will not be painting cover it as well (try with old newspaper and tape to make it carefully and precise.

3.- Get some rolling painting tools, (homedepot) and your paint colours.

4.- Paint each surface, let it dry with open windows, then the other...

    ....You R DONE!

Send me pictures, your colours sound like a great idea..

  7. First cover the florr with plastic from home depot or somthing then ure the blue or white masking tape to cover all the stuff you dont want paint on, like the bottom of the wall where theres the wood and if you dont want the cieling painted mask it up.

Watch out for dripps and globs of paint

  8. Go to a home center and describe your walls, bring a picture if you can and maybe a fabric swatch of what's in your room already. You will need something to prep the surface if it needs it (primer) and whatever else you may need to fix holes or deal with wallpaper. They will help you with things like the type of paint you need (flat, semi-gloss), What's already in the room in terms of the other walls, how to apply the paint if you're going for a particular look/finish/faux-finish. They will also help you with what kind of brush will work best for the type of paint you're getting and other tools like tape, drop cloths, etc...

    Good luck
