Right now they are wood stained with a gloss. I just don't think paint will stick. Do I need to sand? Kilz?

  1. Yes you need to sand the gloss off, then prime them (use something for wood), then you can paint.

    Have fun!

  2. you should sand them down and then paint but then spray with a lacker or sealant that goes over the paint to protect it

  3. Buy a delglosser and clean them very well. I take the doors off and prime them outside using spray kilz it. After it dries lightly sand with very fine sand paper and remove all the dust using a  vacume . Take white spray paint-satin-semi gloss or high gloss depending on what you want. I use Painters Touch since it comes in spray cans and in the can to roll or brush on. I spray paint the doors outside- at least 2 coats-maybe 3 and let them dry. Do the inside first and then the outside. I actually taped off everything in the kitchen and spray painted the cabinets while using a wet-dry vac to suck up the overspray fumes. The spray paint is more durable and the finish comes out flawless.

  4. PREP, PREP, PREP! Sand, then primer, then a good paint (Home Depot - Behr). The kitchen gets a lot of ware and tear and nothing is worse than improper prep. Lots of elbow grease, but worth your time and effort. Good Luck - LT
