I have a product that I've invented and would like to patent it for protection of my idea. Could someone help point me in the right direction?

  1. What country(s) do you want to patent it in?  If you mean you want to patent it in the U.S., you file a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Then in about 3 years, you respond to the first office action, which will present alleged reasons why the application is not patentable....then the fun begins.

You really need the help of a professional.  To find one near you, go to www.uspto.gov and use the index to find the Roster of Attorneys and Agents.  Search it by the first three digits of your zip code.

But before you do that, scrape together 10,000 to Pay the pro and patent office fees.  It might by 5,000 and it might eventually be 20,000 or more, but scrape together 10K to start with.
