Question:

How do I persuade my mother to get me a guinea pig?

I can't have any dogs or cats, so I was thinking about a guinea pig. I would take complete responsibility over it. I told my mother all the pros's and con's of raising a guinea pig. She just won't buy it! I've tried nagging and mentioning a guinea pig in conversations during dinner. I've already found one that's in a rescue that I absolutely adore. How can I persuade my mother to get me a guinea pig?

  1. show her your responsible and go to the shelter and hold the guinea pig and interact with it, have her hold the guinea pig and see how great they are

  2. Do you have a friend with a Guinea Pig?  Maybe you could "take care" of your friend's Guinea Pig over night and this would give your mom and opportunity to see a Guinea Pig up close. Sometimes, people don't think they like certain animals people of lack of exposure or a bad experiences. I never thought I liked hamsters, because growing up I had a friend that had them and the ones she got were always very mean and bit me.

We have now had three different hamsters in my family and have loved them all (all because my daughter wanted a hamster). It's funny, I've  bonded the most to our current hamster Poppy. So, you just never know ...

  3. Show your mom your responsible.  Keep your room clean, do all your chores before she asks, help her with other things without her asking, those kind of things help!  I made a deal with my dad to keep my room clean for a month and I did and now I have a guinea pig...and 6 months later got another one :) lol

  4. Well first your going to want to do a pile of research to show your mom that you are truly interested, and for your own sake of knowledge, and that it's not just a small personal fad.

I recommend saving the money required, and while doing that right a persuasive essay, about the benefits of getting this pet. Make sure you don't nag on her when she's in a bad mood too or she'll just get pi*ssed off and tell you something like "If I here one more thing about those stupid ugly Guinea pigs, then your grounded", and you don't want that.

And then create a massive pro's and con's list of all the components of Piggies, and tell her that you will keep it in your room, where she will not see it. Also tell her that you will be responsible for everything including a possible vet bill. Tell her it's a way of proving your responsibility to her too.

Then start acting really responsibly, and show your parents that you can handle the great responsibility, my dad was very skeptical about letting me have gerbils when I first got them, but I showed him my dedication and persistence, and he went from a No way to a yes.

Print off the info about Ginnie pigs, and all the stuff you need to know, and present it to you mom when she's in a generous mood.

Then if you get the Ginnie pigs show your mom consistency, so that she doesn't deny you, and make you take them back to the store :(.

  5. Copying my answer from a similar question:

Show your commitment by researching their care thoroughly. For instance, guinea pigs should be kept in same s*x pairs and groups, not alone. You didn't seem to know this since you said 'a guinea pig'. Remember also that beyond the initial costs, you still need to pay for food and vet care down the line.

  6. If you haven't done this already try showing her pictures of it or ask a friend to bring his or hers over for your mom to hold and see.  Cuteness is a powerful thing!!!!

  7. i'm going to tell you right from my experiences, no. your mom doesnt want one, i swear, you wont get one by yourself. maybe if your mom's friend or your friend has a guinea pig and they have babies, ask them to offer the guinea pigs to your mom, and tell them that you didnt tell them to offer the pets. i begged my mom for a dog, a cat, a hamster, a gerbil, a rabbit, and even a fish and she said no to all of them. but then she suddenly opened up to me and asked me "would you like a puppy?" when one of her friend's dog had puppies and she asked me "would you like a guinea pig?" when one of her other friend's guinea pig had more guinea pigs (dunno wot to call baby guinea pigs)

    just wait for the opertunity

  8. Tell her to put herself in the guinea pig's shoes. If she were a guinea pig at a shelter, waiting to be rescued before she was put to sleep, wouldn't she want to be put in a loving home?
