How do I persuade my parents to let me get a tarantula? ?

Hi! I really want to get a Chilean Rose-Haired Tarantula, but my mom says she doesn't want to have a "spider" in the house. I am dying to get one, but even when I tell her how the spider's cage will be locked, she doesn't listen. Can anyone give me some tips as to how to approach her with this? Thanks!

  1. Do research and write a proposal. Include biology, husbandry (how to care for them), any dangers of owning one and a budget (cost of enclosure, etc and monthly food cost). Hopefully she'll be  impressed by all your hard work and she'll see how important it is to you. So, be serious about it and make the proposal "professional" (to the best of your ability). If that doesn't work I don't think anything will.

  2. wow dude...frekishLAY freaky..hmm..tell her ull buy it, and the 1st time she sees you letting it out/unlocking its cage she can take it away and ull never ask for another one.

    haha

  3. maybe you can find one who is Defanged and slowly show her the "spider" will not hurt her or bite her... im not saying chase her around the pet store with it just let her come over and see it with you

  4. First do your homework! Are you willing do to what it takes to take care of this spider? Willing to spend the money to get EVERYTHING it needs. Heat, food, cage, bedding, plants etc. And then the money to buy the trantula. The fact is most parents now a days won't buy an animal for a kid because they know they will be the ones who end up taking care of it. And I'm sure your mom doesn't want to take care of a spider. (Especially if she's afraid of them). Maybe if you work hard and save money, do extra chores around the house, help mom with ANYTHING, and show her that your responsible enough to take care of the spider. Also by researching up information on the spider you not only learn how and what you need for the spider, but it also shows your mom that your willing to educate yourself on how to properly take care of a BIG responisbilty.

Also sometimes you can make arrangements with parents. Such as, "If I get all A's& B's do my homework with out back talk. Come home when you say, do extra chores, then can I get a trantula?" Make a contract with your mom (AND SHE has to be willing to sigN!!) so that not only will she have to hold up on her end of the deal, But so will you!! But please read up first then decide wether this is a good pet for you.

  5. Sneak one in? xD

My mom didn't like hamsters until she saw my friend's hamster, now I have two (: Not too sure if that'll work with a tarantula though :P

  6. If your mom's anything like me, you'll never get a spider no matter how you approach her. Spiders can be terrifying to some people, and if that's how they feel, you can't change it.
