Question:

How do I pick up the hamster turds in the bedding?

Do I pick them out with my hands? My hamster has certain places where he keeps them. I don't know how to get them out, though. Maybe a plastic spoon? It's easier it seems just

to let the turds accumulate and then change all the bedding once a week. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  1. You can clean the cage once a week or clean the bedding where they p**p.  But you still need to clean their whole cage at least every other week.  But only if they potty in particular spots, but all over the cage.

  2. You should get a litter box like my hamster has...she always goes in it, it works quite well :)

  3. wow that retarded one of sucking it up with a straw just made me want to throw up.

why can't anyone just reply with nice answers instead of being disgusting or acting like complete tools?

anyway, yeah, just make sure to clean it out about once a week before it starts to smell bad.

  4. teach your hamster to use the toilet

  5. ....I suck them up with a straw....

  6. When I had my hamster, he pooped in the same spot. I would just clean it really well every week. That's what my friend did too. She had a hamster ball too, so as she was cleaning the cage, her hamster would get exercise. But, make sure you clean it really well with disinfecting wipes.

  7. Hamsters tend to use the rest room in one general area by instinct. They sell hamster litter boxes so that your hamster can use that instinct and it makes it alot easier to keep it's cage fresh and clean until you clean the whole cage.

  8. Cleaner cages are better for your pet, so the partial scoopings during the week are a good thing along with the weekly complete change.

You can buy hamster pottys - throw out the litter that comes with these and add a small amount of the soiled bedding to the potty. Place this where your hamster uses the potty most often. This can help with your cage cleaning. They often come with a minature scoop - looks like a scaled down version of the ones used for cat litter.

A special potty isn't a must - you can use whatever. Even if you don't put something in the cage, scooping with a plastic spoon or anything similar will work.

Truthfully, the little plastic scoop that came with the hamster potty looks remarkably similar to a childs slotted spoon for a toy kitchen set.

  9. I wouldn't even bother picking out the hamster turds. What I do suggest is that you clean the cage once a week. I would take the cage, throw all the bedding out, and just spray it down with the hose. Then for any really dirty spots, I'd clean with antibacterial wipes. I'd also suggest getting a litter box for your hamster. My hamster would wake up during the middle of the dayand climb all the way down his tube to use his litter box.
