  1. this depends on your house rules.  Some poeple play behind the "beaking line" and only allow you to hit a ball on the other side of that line.  I play ball in hand where u can put theball anywhere and shot in any direction.

  2. If he scratches off the break you place the cue ball behind the head string; if he scratches during the course of the game the CPA/APA rules state it can then be placed anywhere on the table.

  3. It depends on the game you're playing.  If you're playing 8 ball or 9 ball, you get ball in hand, anywhere on the table and you can shoot in any direction.  If you're playing straight pool or one pocket, you get the cue ball in hand behind the head string and must shoot the cue ball to the other side of the head string before contacting a ball, unless the object ball is on the head string.

  4. It depends on the game you're playing.  If it's 9-ball or 8-ball, you'll be awarded "ball-in-hand", meaning you can place the cue ball anywhere you want.

  5. First of all, I've never heard of an aponent.  If you mean opponent then there are two ways to place the cue-ball following a scratch.  If you are playing "ball-in-hand", you can place the cue-ball anywhere on the table.  If it isn't ball-in-hand, you place the cue-ball on or behind the headstring.  The headstring is an imaginary line across the table from the middle spot on one side rail to the other,  opposite from the spot that the balls are racked on.
