My hubby and I will be in London to visit family (first time) for 2 weeks. We want to take a 2-day trip to Paris. We would leave London, train by eurostar, and stay overnight. Then come back the next day some time. What are the best deals? How do we get around? Are packages the chepest way? HELP. I am so confused on how to plan and pay for this trip. What is the best to see? Any ideas for a romantic evening? Tours, yes or no?

  1. Its really quite simple. Book your eurostar trip online.

If you leave early (for example the 6:55 AM departure) and come back late the next day, book online and a couple of weeks in advance, the fare will be quite low (I just did some playing on the SNCF site and came up with a fare of less than £ 45.

Parts of two days and a night is a short time to be in as big and interesting a city is Paris but you can see a great deal if you are organized.

Frankly I find guided tours hideous, overpriced and a waste of time.

In the time you have you can easily see some of the more famous sights (Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Pantheon, Tuileries Gardens, Champs Elysee), have several nice meals, spend an evening sampling some of delightful nightlife.

If you have particular interests I will be happy to create an itinerary for you.

Getting around Paris is quite easy. Its actually a very compact city and the public transportation is very well organozed. there is no address in Paris proper that is more than 6 blocks from a metro station.

  2. Rillifane is the man.  Listen to him.  The only thing I would add is that romantic dinner cruise down the Seine on Bateaux Parisiens.  You can see all (well not ALL but a lot) of the best sites along the Seine and watch the City Of Lights light up in front of you while you sip wine and eat a nice meal while being entertained with live music and singing.  Great way to spend the evening on such a short trip.  EuroStar is also a cake walk and I agree, again, book early and on-line.  I did this London trip from Paris and it was great and easy.  Have a great trip and enjoy Paris!
