1st you need the newest version of chess.If you don't here is how to get it.

a version conflict is when the game demo is outdated,and has nothing to do with your browser.

Yahoo updated chess you now need the new version.But you have to remove the old one 1st.

normal clearing of cache does not remove game demos.(deleting browser history old files clearing cookies, ect)

You have to manually remove the game demo.

click start button,,search,click on files/folders, type in yahoo chess. When file comes up, right click on it then click remove. Next trip to chess it will prompt you to download the new demo of yahoo's newest version of chess.

A few people are having a problem with the above method.If so use this method! : Go to; tools on your tool bar,select Internet options, browser history, settings button,,view objects. Select the game; chess, then delete it. All your yahoo games demo's should be there,,spades euchre ect.

enter a lobby (any)    click small windows in option box,now make a table set it as private. Take a seat then invite a bot to play against they are at the bottom of list of players.And your playing against the computer.
