I have 3 big bold dashes on my godfather sheet music and they lie between two Cs of different pitches. How do I play these?

  1. do anything

  2. Back and forth between the two notes, very rapidly, with pinkie and thumb. It's a dramatic sounding device- very fitting :)

  3. Yes, a tremolo.  But not as fast as you can.  3 bars means it's an "unmeasured" tremolo...so just do it fairly fast.  2 bars means it's a measured tremolo, in which case you would alternate between the two notes at a specific rhythmic value.

  4. Tremolo ... thumb and pinkie alternate as fast as you can for the full duration of the note.
