How do I play video files directly from my HD to TV?

Question

i have some movie files (.vob, .mpeg, .avi etc.), i want to play my external Harddrive directly on my TV. Other than hooking it to PC and connecting PC to TV..

you could get a roku - video machine and I think slingbox might have a similar feature, but not for sure.
