How do I point a .co.uk domain to a USA host?

Question

I have new hosting in the USA for my website but my domain is a .co.uk

My host in the USA said they can't renew or "hold" .co.uk domain so they told me to register it in the UK and point the nameservers to the USA host. I can't really find much information about who offers this service will it normally be offerered by any one whos sells UK domains ?

Go to any UK domain registrar.

Example: http://www.domainregister.com/uk.html

Register your domain name.

Once registered go into your control panel for the domain name.

Put in the DNS info supplied by the US based host (ask them for it)

This will "point" your domain name to their host server.

You need to set up a forwarding destination for your .uk domain through your present provider.  This is often achieved through an internet type 'Control Panel' which you log into.

Here is an example.

You use "Bloggs-Internet" to provide you with your uk domain name of "My-Domain.co.uk"  and your new USA webspace is at "Stateside-Servers".

You log into your account at "Bloggs-Internet" and access the Control Panel for the domains on your account.

Selecting the "My-Domain.co.uk" you should be able select something like [Destination Type], which you want to be {Forwarded}.

You will then have to tell it the forwarding destination, in this case {http://Stateside-Servers}.

You may also have to decide whether to [Frame redirect] or [HTTP redirect]:

HTTP redirect will show the destination url (in this case "http://Stateside-Servers" as well as the destination url's Title Bar.

FRAME redirect will keep your own .co.uk url in the url field, in this case "http://"My-Domain.co.uk" and (via the control panel) will allow you to create your own title in the title bar.

With the exception of web hosting companies who only register domains for use with their own hosting, you can point any domain name to any ip address.

Find any company with a focus on registering domain names and you should be fine. I generally use http://easily.co.uk/
