Question:

How do I politely tell people that I don't want to be cheered up?

I'm in kind of a bad mood today, but I'm not letting that affect how I treat others. Still, I'm being quiet, and want to be left alone and everyone around me seems to think I should be smiling and wants to cheer me up. While I appreciate their concern, I just don't feel like being all chipper and happy today and would rather just sit quietly without a lot of pressure to be ecstatic. How do I ask these people politely to get out of my face?

  1. I usually just give them a sad smile and say, "I'm just in a blue funk.  I'll be better tomorrow.  Thanks for caring, " and then either walk or turn away, to indicate that I'm kind of done discussing it.

I have the same problem, darlin.  I know exactly how you feel.

  2. Since others ARE being affected by your mood today, you'd do best to stay in your room if you want to be crabby.  Then you don't make people worry about your mental health.  I think you  might be enjoying the attention - especially since you asked the world on yahoo!  We all control our own moods - if you want to be in a bad mood, do it alone.  If you want to be in a good mood you will find a way.  Enjoy your pity party!

  3. simply tell them you're a little moody and nothing can make you happy again, except for being left alone

  4. cheer up - you sound grumpy.

  5. Sometimes I just don't want to cheer up.  I would say like someone else said 'thanks, I am in a little funk, but tomorrow is another day.'  :)  Some people feel bad when they know others are sad, so just be careful not to sound to mean to people who mean well.

  6. Good question. I enjoy being in a dark place, too, sometimes. But let them try to cheer you up. Some idiots think happiness is all that matters.

  7. tell them you have pmt and youll be fine later.
