How do I request info from people who want to join on the page that they see when they are typing in their original message request to join. I dont want to post it on the main page but I do need people to give more detailed information than just "I want to join" in order to ensure that only peolple who should join this group are trying to. These are parents trying to get change for their special needs kids through the school districts and through state agencies...we dont want any of their teachers or administrators "lurking" or reading their posts. So I want a way to ask for more detailed info on the page that they would write a note on why they want to join. Thanks,

Holly

  1. you would do this under the files, more in the means of a questionnaire or simple short text requesting more info  - create a text file, this way you can add to it later. you will enter a file name, a description and choose when it's sent-

    Upon pending membership <--

    Upon joining group

    Upon leaving group

    On rejected membership

    Upon being banned from group

    Every 2 weeks

    Every month

enter your content in the File Content and when done, click create file at bottom.

keep in mind, anyone can write anything on the join page message to sound good. there would be no real way to determine if they were teachers or administrators or a parent just by what they add.

on an added side note- some times those people you want to weed out can be very proactive and supportive on a group, and further more, if the parent has the educational law to back them up and advocate well for their child, and teachers or administrators being on a list wont make any difference to IDEA.

  2. Create a file in the Files section of your group with the questions you need answered.  Set it to go out automatically with every request to join.

I'd suggest that your home page indicate that there will be an automatic mailing that requires a response.

    Wish you luck!
