How do I potty train a 1 year old Puggle pup?

We just adopted a puggle pup approximated to be about 1 year old. He's not potty trained. We bought some pee-pee pads and have followed their instructions but he still goes around the house. We take him out CONSTANTLY and don't feel like we can let him out of our sight...and even then he still manages to lift a leg. We praise when he goes outside and have looked for indicators that he needs to go but he doesn't have any. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

  1. My first piece of advice, is lose the wee wee pads if you're planning on training him to go outside.

Clean up inside messes with a pet enzyme eliminator, and focus simply on good outside potty.

Either play, work, snuggle, love, train, pet, or crate your pup at all times.

If he has time to run around and entertain himself, he has time for accidents.

  2. i have a dog and i have ptty trained it..pee pee pads r a waste of money, u should just put a newspaper in each floor in the house where there is no carpet. if he pees on the floor where there is no newspaper, touch his nose and he will no that hes not allowed to pee on the floor and point to the newsppaper...this will eventually work, it did on my dog :)

  3. Hey I have a puggle puppy too! Except he's only about 2 1/2 months old.. he isn't potty trained either. The same is happening with us, we're having a hard time potty-training him. However, my dad's boss never had any kids she just raised puppies so she is an expert.., she said it might take 4 months to potty train puppies, plus it is harder since your puppy is mor eof a dog now. For now, keep on watching him. If he starts to sniff around- HE HAS TO GO. They aaaalways sniff before they pee or p**p. If you can, try and get him out the door before he's finished going. They have 10 seconds after they forget what they did wrong, so if you go and say "NO!" after he's finished going.. chances are, it's too late and he's forgotten what he's done. Praise him and give him treats when he goes outside. Also, always bring him outside after he eats or drinks, keep him out for 10 minutes because he may not have to go at first but he will have to eventually. Bring him out the same door, and attach some bells to the doorknob. He will soon associate the bells with going pee and eventually, you can work your way up to taking his paw and ringing the bells with it on your way out- then he will LEARN to ring them himself as a way to signal he has to pee or poo.

    Good luck!

Puggles are such great dogs, we love ours.
