Question:

How do I prepare breast milk bottles for Day Care Provider?

My baby is almost 3 months old and in about a month I will return back to work. I will soon start to store frozen breast milk for her to have while I'm away. The question I have is, is it okay to put thawed breast milk in bottles that will have nipples in the cap rings? Or is it best to have milk completely sealed. I want to provide four 4 ounce bottles and would rather just have provider warm and serve so that she doesn't have to mess with my breast milk. Also doesn anyone know which bottles are best, I want to continue breastfeeding when I'm with baby. She takes playtex fine but because breast milk will be refriderated I would like something that can go in bottle warmer. Thank you for you answers.

  1. I don't' know if this will help you. But I babysat a four month old and she was breastfed. Her mother pumped and put the milk into breast-milk bags and froze it. She would put anywhere from 4 to 8 ounces in each little bag. They make them specifically for breast milk. She had the vent air bottles. She would bring them frozen and then I would put in the refrigerator and then when they were thawed I would put in the bottles and heat in the microwave or I would just heat water in the microwave and then put the bottle in it and heat that. way. The vent air ones worked good for the microwave or a pan on the stove. Sometimes she would also send the individual packets of formula that I could give along with the breast milk if I need more. I don't remember the name brand, but they make individual wrappers of formula that has enough for a four ounce bottle. It was easy and quick to do.

  2. What the first poster said plus look into glass bottles, after the plastic scare it is best to invested in glass bottles.  Also congrats on breastfeeding, it's great to see that your care for the well being of your little one.  Look at the site below, it has a lot of great resources for returning to work breastfeeding mothers.

To the poster above, why should she put rat's poison into her babies body.  Formula is the worst thing you can put into your child's body, I pity that poor baby that was given that c**p.

  3. I don't see a problem with the nipples assuming you'll sterilise everything at night with the dishwasher or alternative.  Pop them on frozen milk removed from the freezer the night before & put it in the fridge for the next day, ready to lift out.  I think that would be fine.  I used tommy tippee wide nipple 9oz bottles because my daughter refused the smaller bottles with smaller/harder teats.  Everyone i know raves about Dr Browns but I never tried those.

EDIT: I agree with Elyse above - I usually used the day befores everyday.  I never froze anything except the first lot which gave me time to express a days supply one day in advance and that just became the cycle.  And I never had a problem with my baby wanting the breast even using bottles - no confusion or anything.  Also, that dude who gave off about staying home.. I think he's a bit out of touch..

  4. First I would reccomend Fresh Baby Baby Food and Breast Milk Trays sold at Babiesrus.  They are premeasured storing trays which will make it easier when preparing the bottles for the day care.

I would reccomend Dr. Brown bottles.  They have wide neck bottles which you could put the frozen pre-measured breast milk in and they have the storage twist caps that only have to be removed then replaced with the nipple.  That way there no one is actually touching your breastmilk.  Also, you do not want to microwave breast milk.  It breast milk.  It breask down the propertys.  But a regular bottle warmer should be fine.  Hope this helps a little.

  5. My sister started to actually to mix the breast milk with a formula.   See if you can try to mix them to see if your child will take it.

Believe me you will be thankful for a day when you can change over to formula.

  6. If your kid is still young enough to breast feed, why in the world aren't you raising her at home? Maybe you can hire a wet nurse then you don't have to do any parenting and go work on your career.

  7. You will pump into storage bottles at work then the night before transfer to the actual bottles to give to the care giver. Normally you pump today for what your child will eat for tomorrow and the freezer stash is for emergencies.

  8. pump your breast, put milk into bottles and bring them to the day care with you..... I would make sure there is a cap on the nipples, but them in fridge and use a bottle warmer to heat them
