I live in The Yucatan, Mexico. (60 miles inland) Even though I have been in a Cat 3 hurricane before, I don't know what to expect from a tropical storm. Any help will be appreciated.

  1. A tropical storm is no where near as bad as a Cat 3 hurricane. However it is always better to be safe than sorry. You should stay tuned to the weather in your area and monitor it closely. What ever you do don't wait till the last minute. If I were you I would go out and buy extra batteries and make sure you have a flashlight, bottled water non perishable foods and snacks a radio that runs on batteries and extra batteries for it candles. Really you should get a Rubbermaid container and make a hurricane kit and keep it stocked because of where you live. Make sure you have your prescriptions filled and if your pets have them make sure they are filled too. As the storm approaches you should fill up your bath tubs with water. And just have whatever you need to sustain yourself inside your home for a few days. And make sure your car is filled with gas in case you have to evacuate at the last minute and have some cash on hand in case the ATMS go down. Pick up any loose articles in your yard so they don't fly away and talk to people in your community to see if they are boarding up their windows.
