Is there a way to password-protect a file from being opened, not just changed, by another user on my computer?

Using MS Office Word/Excel 2003, btw.

  1. in excel you can set a password protect so no one can munipulate it....

if you want to hide files, just right click on it and hide it

not sure if you can password protect one specific file...

  2. Yes, you can protect your file with the password.

Follow the below mentioned procedure -

    1. Use the 'Save' or 'Save As' option

    2. Press on the 'Tools' on the 'Save' or 'Save As' window,

    3. Select 'General Option' option on the Tools drop down menu.

    4. Here you will get an small window which will ask you for adding password while opening the file and/or modifying the file.

  3. In the MS Suite of applications, you can go into the Tools menu and then choose the option to Protect Document and it will give you the option to set a password and what kind of permissions that someone without the password has so that only the one with the password for that document can modify it completely.

  4. yeah, there's a way.  but I don't know how

  5. I think if you shoot the first person you catch opening your files, you will have no further occurrences.

  6. There is a way, but I had to have my Geek Squad do it.  I'll watch your answers and see if someone tells you!

  7. Create different user accounts on your CPU. Each user can have his/her own wallpaper, screensaver, etc. and you can add a password to log in to your account. Go to START, My Computer, Control Panel, then User Accounts

  8. Go to the Tools menu and select Protection, there are options for just the worksheet you're on or the entire workbook.

  9. Start Microsoft Office Word 2003 and create a new document. On the File menu, point to Permission, and then click Do Not Distribute. In the Permission dialog box, select the Restrict permission to this <file type> check box.

In the Read and Change boxes, type the names or e-mail addresses of people you want to give permission to. If you want to give all users permission, click Give all users Read access to the right of the Read box, or click Give all users Change access to the right of the Change box.

Click OK, save your document, and distribute to the people with permission.
