  1. when i bought my bike the the shop owner told me to run my locking chain through the bottom of the saddle where you can adjust the position of the saddle.....and then run them through the rim and close them....hopefully the seatpost and saddle wont be stolen

  2. thumb tacs taped to the post sticking out...

I did it on my 3rd bike light and I have had it for some time now...

    :)

    eye for an eye

  3. A determined thief can steal just about anything.  Some communities actually have street side bike cases that completely enclose the bike.

If there something special about the seat, you could put it in a lockable metal case that you could chain to the bike or take with you.  I do not think that would be very practical though.  They can still cut your tires and wreck your spokes.

  4. Generally, you don't worry about the bolt-on stuff. It's easier and quicker to steal the whole bike than it is to unbolt a stem and handlebar. The frame and anything that's attached via quick-release should be locked, though.

  5. If not the seat post and stem, it'll be the brake callipers, brake/gear shifters, handlebars. Just about anything. All you need is a hex/allen key.

  6. For the seat, why don't you just run a cable through it that is locked to you bike, if the thief wants your seatpost afterwards, well there's just no stopping him.

Creative... what about soldering them together?
