Thanks, Goliath, for your great answer. I do not find a code in the papers that came with the set. I assume the green light you refer to is one of the three on the bottom frame of the screen. Do I just keep hitting and missing with the codes until I hit the right one?

  1. what brand of remote is it? dish has used lots of remotes over the years. you should be able to find info about programming from the satellite company's website under support.

  2. guaranteed to work....press and hold the TV button at the top of the remote until all 4 top buttons light up, let go of the TV button and press  5  then 0 then 0 then # , then try the volume bar to verify it worked ,then press the sat button at the top left to put the remote back into satellite mode. this works with all models of Sony TVs without fail...if possible id like a large pizza instead of yahoo points...Ty very much

You need to repeat  the steps, trying all codes for your Sony TV until the correct one is found. Previously you said you had Directv, if you still have problems programming the remote try www.directv.com for more help.

    1. Turn on the TV.

    2. Locate the 5-digit code for your TV.

    3. Slide the MODE switch to the TV position.

    4. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys at the same time until the green light under the TV position flashes twice, then release both keys.

    5. Using the number keys enter the 5-digit code for your brand of TV. If performed correctly, the green light under TV flashed twice.

    6. Aim the remote at your TV and press the PWR key once. Your TV should turn off. If it does not turn off, repeat steps 3 and 4, trying each code for your brand until you find the correct code.

    7. Slide the MODE switch to the DIRECTV position. Press

TV POWER. Your TV should turn on.
