you can't do it yourself you have to take it to the dealer and have them do it. reason being is because you have to program it with a tech 2. i can tell you how to do it with a tech 2 but you can't get one.

if this is an original transmitter that quit working, make sure the battery is good.  Then, hold the lock and unlock buttons down at the same time until the vehicle either honks the horn, chimes the chime, or lock and unlocks the doors.  If nothing like this happens after about 20 seconds, then this "resynchronization" was not successful.

You will then need to determine if the transmitter is good using a GM transmitter tester.  As far as programming, a tech 2 scanner is the method most techs know about, but, there is another way, and it's the way the assembly line programs them.  I'm racking my brain trying to remember how to do it manually.  It is very similar to the manual way you can do it on gm trucks, which is to....sit in vehicle, key off.  Hold the unlock button down on the door lock switch. while holding it down, cycle the key to run, off, run, off, run.  I believe a chime will sound letting you know you're in programming mode.  you can release the unlock button now, then push both lock and unlock down on your transmitter and hold until something similar like I said above happens, which lets you know programming was successful.
