How do I pronounce Barend?

SDL - No I'm not naming my child this I was just wondering.

its a common name in South Africa- I have heard two pronounciations of Barend

1- Ba-rend (with a hard D)

2- Baah-rend

I kinda like the name, I know two guys with the name and they are wonderful, down-to-earth gentlemen.

I would pronounce it similarly to German Bernd ("bairnt")

or "BAR-und".
