  1. well you have to show them a birth certhiage, a social security card and a driver's license in order to get your passport. When you become a US citizen, you are suppose to get a social security card if you are a foreign born.

  2. Mmm sorry, that doesn't make you a US citizen.  If he was a US citizen when you were BORN then you might have an easier time obtaining citizenship...   In any case contact your friendly neighborhood US embassy.

  3. You will need any form of identification.  If you can get your father's identification that should work too.  A great website  is uscis.gov, it'll be able to answer any of your questions.

  4. A birth certificate, driver's license, court order, eg.

  5. For what I know, your father must of submitted a petition for immediate relative (I-130) when you where a minor or a V-Visa petition, for you to receive automatic legal status, this should have been done while he was a Permanent Resident or when he became a US Citizen. Now you must also see what is your current status in case your father never submitted anything.

In case he didn't file anything while you where a minor he can still petition you under (I-130)  the only thing is there is a waiting time for overage children. Check it on the www.uscis.gov ( Immigration Website) . Or a recommended immigration attorney site www. shusterman.com.

In case you have your green card, and have been a resident for at least 5 years, you should now apply for  your US. Citizenship.

    * To recieve a US. Passport you must be a US. Citizen, eiather born, or naturalized.  If you where allready naturalized then you should submit your naturalization certificate only along with application, photos and check-- in order to recieve your passport.

  6. to get a passport i believe you have to use your birth certificate.

  7. You need 2 basic things for a passport: Citizenship and Identity documents. Bring a birth certificate for you and your American father, along with any photo ID's you have. Bring along school records, health records, your dad's US driver license, anything that shows you to have a legitimate claim to US citizenship. More is better.

    HOWEVER...

Make SURE you can claim US citizenship. False passport applications, even if you were "pretty sure" you were supposed to get one, could get you some time in jail. Just because your father was a US citizen does not make you one. He would have to have been a US citizen when you were born to claim that. If he was naturalized after you were born, then you're not a citizen, but you could petition for naturalization.

  8. this is what the US passport agency says about citizenship :

What Are the Other Provisions of the Child Citizenship Act?

Another section of the Child Citizenship Act provides that children (biological or adopted) of American citizens who are born and reside abroad, and who do not become American citizens at birth can apply to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security (USCIS) for a certificate of citizenship if the following conditions are met.

At least one parent of the child is an American citizen by birth or naturalization.

The American citizen parent has been physically present in the United States for a total of at least five years, at least two of which are after the age of 14. If the child''s American citizen parent cannot meet the physical presence requirement, it is enough if one of the child''s American citizen grandparents can meet it.

The child is under the age of eighteen.

The child lives abroad in the legal and physical custody of the American citizen parent and has been lawfully admitted into the United States as a nonimmigrant.

Children who acquire citizenship under this new provision do not acquire citizenship automatically. They must apply to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security (USCIS) and go through the naturalization process.

What Is the Effective Date of the Child Citizenship Act?

The effective date of the Child Citizenship Act is February 27, 2001. Children who met these requirements on that date automatically became American citizens. Children who were 18 years of age or older on that date did not acquire American citizenship from the Child Citizenship Act of 2000.
