Question:

How do I properly place a violin on my shoulder?

It seems like my collarbone is bruised because of the placement of the violin... I also have quite a time keeping the violin there. Am I doing it right or do I need a shoulder rest?

  1. You are definitely going to have to get a shoulder rest. Kuns are the best. They are adjustable, comfortable, and only cost twenty bucks. You can also get other kinds if they suit you better. Most of the pressure that comes from holding the violin should be on the place between your neck and your shoulder, not on your collarbone. Also make sure that your jaw is in your chin rest instead of your chin.
