How do I properly remove and dispose of oily bilge water?

  1. Place oil absorbent material in the bilge to attract oil,  fix your source of leaking oil, pump out water that is de- oiled.


  2. you must separate the oil and water. If you just dump it and get caught or reported by a 'friend.' you will pay an enormous fine,,get inspected continually,,etc

    Or you can put it in a barrel and ship it to either iraq or china.

  3. at the local marine store or even at your marina the oil absorbant material is great.  Sells for about $7-$10 lookes like white quilt batting rolled into a tubular shape stuck in a fish net material. Don't unroll......... it is about 12-18" long and 2-3" in diameter,  Then you have to dispose of it properly.

  4. With an oil absorbent material, then bag it adispose of properly

    or have your marine mechanic do it

    Remember the bilge should not be completely dry

    Overboard discharge of oil, waste, or dunnage, on ANY U.S. Inland waters is punishable by  up to a $10,000 fine plus prison
