I'm scared to use bleech but my clothes don't feel very clean so I want to start using bleech. Any tips how to pour on the clothes in the washing machine without ruining them? How much less should I use for colored clothes?

  1. When you use bleach for whites it works best with one cup bleach in hot water and your regular detergent. You can put it directly in the machine or in the bleach dispenser if it has one. For colors, (if you really feel you must use bleach) fill the washer with water, add about a half cup of bleach to the water and swish it around with your hand. Then add the clothes and the detergent. You should never pour bleach directly on your colored clothes and you shouldn't use it on nylon materials or silks. Keep in mind that if you use bleach a lot on your clothes it will cause them to fade very quickly and it will break down the fibers causing small holes to start appearing in your fabrics. If you feel like your clothes aren't getting clean enough, change your detergent till you find one that you like rather than using bleach.

  2. Ok for whites you either put the bleach in the bleach dispenser, or if the  machine doesn't have one fill the washer with hot water and 1/2 cup of clorox when it is full put your clothes in. Use Chlorox powdered color safe bleach for colors using cold or warm water and 1/4 cup of powdered bleach to the load.
