I really want to cut and edit football video for the upcoming season as it comes along and I have no idea where to start as far as equipment and and software goes. I have a pretty solid, brand new laptop and a brand new HD-DVR. I don't plan to do a TON of editing just making highlights and adding music so I don't need anything TOO elaborate. Thanks.

  2. The only way to can take the recording off your DVR is if it's a TiVo brand DVR. You can't do it with any other DVR.

EDIT:  With the TiVo DVR you have to connect it to your home network. You can do it ether way (wireless or wired). If you already have it set up to a network. Than go to http://www.tivo.com/setupandsupport/mess... and download TiVo Desktop. You will have to upgrade it to convert it to MP4. The TiVo Desktop software will transfer the recording form your TiVo box to your PC as .tivo file type.
