How do I pursue a career in auto racing with no prior experience?

I'm 22 years old and I've just graduated from college. I'm at a point in my life where I'm deciding what I will do for the rest of my life. I've always had a passion for motorsports, but I never had the oppurtunity to race as a child. I would like to now pursue a career in motorsports but I have no prior experience and no money. How can I get started? Would going to a racing school such as Bondurant or Skip Barber be a good initial step?

  1. 1.Stat go-karting at your track try and win the local derby get enough exp and progress to bigger race,

    2. win those races and your bound to get picked up by a good racing team in a lower class GT or formula 3 if your really good.

Licence will be arranged by your team but you might have to cover atleast one full race simulation on track testing.

3.Win formula 3 progress to gp2 win gp2 and get an assured seat in formula 1.Super liscence arranged by team and FIA committee viewing your past experience and also the required laps in a current f1 car(200laps and your good)

Do he above and Guaranteed not only all Possible FIA license but also superstardom and yes lotsa money......

    best of luck

  2. you really cant go wrong with Skip Barber, once u graduate from Skip they have a racing series that alot of big time drivers now got started in. You should probabley do the Advanced 3 Day Racing School, i believe is what it is called and you have to do that to do the series

  3. If your not opposed to oval racin' get yourself set up in a stock car for experience.  If you are pretty good you can break even most nights and even make a little money.  Look into a hobby or street stock.  I started racing at 18 at my local dirt track and I have found that every one is super nice and helpful.  If you find out your good you may have a shot at some professional racing you just never know!  Local stock car racing isn't too expensive and if you know how to fix cars and work on your own things its even cheaper!

You need seat time most of all.  If you can afford it then get your own car and try to get a few sponsors.  I don't think a school in necessary but ALWAYS listen to the other drivers at the track they have good advise and don't be shy to ask questions.

If you are more of a road course person look in to SCCA type things.  There are many rent 2 race type of events around the country.  You can start with a miata or something relativity inexpensive and work up from there!

  4. you are to old for any of the high level racing unless you marry a womand with a LOT of money, sorry. there are alot of "club" races but you won't make any money at it, it's hobby racing.
