Question:

How do I put a lien on someone's house? They owe me a LOT of money and know that I don't really trust them-?

It's a long story...And they actually suggested that I put a lien on their property, so hopefully I would have their cooperation. She is in Florida I am in California. How do I go about this?

  1. You must first take them to Small Claims Court. If the judge decides that you are owed the money, he/she will then order a judgment for that individual to pay you what is owed. If it is a situation where the person has not yet defaulted on any payments, and you do not want to take them to court; I would suggest creating a promissory note, where the individual agrees to pay you. Or, consider a contract between you two. But, to put a lien on someone you have to go through the courts.  


  2. First you'd have to get a judgememt against them.  And small claims court has limits, so you might have to go beyond small claims court depending on how much money is involved.

  3. hire a lawyer or take them to small claims court and get a judgment against them
