Question:

How do I put .avi file types onto DVD?

I have a number of .avi files on my hard drive which I would like to burn onto a DVD which could then be played on a DVD player. Do I need to convert the files into another file type and which one? If so, can anyone suggest a program I could use to do this?

  1. I would recommend you to download ConvertXtoDvd ,

It will convert your video files to the dvd format readable by all standard dvd players, then burn automatically to DVD!

    1. Download ConvertXtoDVD here:

    http://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DV...

    2. Add or drag-n-drop as many video files as the DVD can handle

    3. Insert blank DVD

    4. Click "Convert"

    5. Enjoy watching those video files on your home DVD player! =)

    Good luck~~

  2. I always use Aimersoft DVD Creator, it can easily convert all popular video formats (AVI, MP4, MPG, MPEG, 3GP, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, DAT, MOV, FLV, etc) to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable and home DVD players, that's very good, you can check it out here for free:

Of course, http://answers.yahoo.com can give you more options

  3. Hi, You can use "Nero Vision" software to write .avi files to your DVD & view the DVD on your DVD-player. Nero vision automatically converts the video files to desired format.

  4. Get AVS Video Converter, it can rip and burn personal DVDs, convert video, split, join, edit, rotate, apply effects, transfer, copy! All key video formats are supported! This is the best tool I' ve been used.

  5. Nero 7 has some problems converting . avi to DVD format, depending on which type of files you are using. The biggest problem seems to be a conversion in the audio section that leaves the audio out of sync with the video. You can search for threads about this problem, and I have yet to see a definite answer for the situation. But many suggest using ConvertX to convert the files prior to placing in NeroVision 4 to avoid this situation. The files you have may work fine, however.

I have not experienced the audio sync problem myself, but mine are not DivX or such types. Many of the problems might be caused by the encoding on the original file and may not be compatible with Nero.

Overall, the program seems to work well and has utilities for just about anything you might want to do.

  6. The trick is to tell your computer to make a DATA disc...not a movie.  If you save them as data and do not include any other formats on the disc, your player (If it isn't a dinosaur) should recognize it.
