How do I put my contacts in I'm having trouble?

Question

I tried with my optometrist and couldn't get it so I have to go again. How can I make sure I'll get it the next time? Both of my eyes keep closing when I get really (I mean REALLY) close to getting it in and the lens would flip out. She gave me the eye drops to practice with at home instead of the contacts.

Also, I can take it out, so that's not a problem.

How do I get it in easily by next Thursday

I have had contacts for a number of years. When I initially went I couldn't get it either, he got me to do the whole arm over head lifting top lid up. That didn't work for me so I went somewhere else. He got me to try that at first but he told me that technique is tricky and awkward for some. So now I just tip my head down slightly look at the mirror and pull my lower eye lid down and pop the contact in, takes a few times when your beginning. To be able to do this you have to be comfortable touching your eyes without blinking Whatever you do it will take practice.

It's kind of hard to explain but I'll try.

You have to put one hand over your head and use your finger to lift your top lid.

then with the hand you use to put the contact in use you middle finger to pull down your bottom lid and use your index finger to put the contact in.

try not focusing on your finger and the contact cause then it'll make you wanna shut your eyes.

try looking at the top corner of your eye and think about something else.

then after its in, close your eyes and move your finger over your top lid so the contact is positioned right.

i got contacts today :)

I know what you mean. When I tried putting them in, I'd like have them in, but then I'd blink, and then they'd come off. agh. It's very frustrating.

Anyway: Your optometrist probably told you to put the lenses on the colored part, and then put a little pressure on the eye, and then blink. That's how I put them in. Well, all you have to do is get comfortable touching your eye. Definitely use the eyedrops, because then your eyes will be kind of used to something going in your eye.

A tip:

1. When you put them in, and hold both your upper and lower eyelid, hold your eyelashes w/ the upper eyelid. The eyelashes are the main reason people can't get them in.

The same thing happened to me, but I held my eyelashes [that's what my optometrist reccommended], and I got it in. If you don't blink, and you think you got it in, most likely you don't because you need to put a little pressure on it so it stays. It doesn't stay automatically.

So the best thing would just be to be comfortable w/ touching your eyes, and try not to blink with the eyedrops.

here's how I put them in: [right eye]

1. Wash hands!

2. Put contact on right index finger

3. Take my right hand/finger and hold top eyelid INCLUDING EYELASHES

4. Take my left middle finger, and hold down bottom eyelid

5. Put it right onto the colored part of my eye and put a little pressure.

*Usually people can get it in, but they can't because they can't put the pressure on the contact to stick. *
