Question:

How do I put spin on my overhand serve?

I can serve it pretty hard straight, but I want to know how to put spin on the ball and move the ball from right to left or left to right. I normally serve it with very little spin in any direction.

  1. When you throw up the ball to serve it.. put spin on it there in the direction you want it to go!

  2. ridoutgirl do you play volleyball?

Zone 2,3,4 are closest to the net and 1,5,6 are farther from the net.

Zone 1 is the server's spot.

  3. Snap your wrist a little bit, or hit it with part of your hand!

  4. some woman told me this the other day...u kno the little whole where you blow it up (sorry, can't think of what it's called) but whichever way it is turned, it makes it curve and gives you a nasty serve that is hard to control! it's crazy...it takes a little while to figure out, but it works! hope that helps! :]]

  5. If you are looking to move the ball to right and left, you would be better off serving a floater (goes just like a knukle ball pitch in baseball).  If you are looking to spin it, the best you can do is top spin to get the ball to drop faster.  The best way to do is from snapping your wrist, just like a spike.  It takes a little to master, but is a very effective serve when you get it down.

  6. Use a ball spinner

  7. Seriously. Does anyone who answered this question even play volleyball? I hope not! lol. I think you're asking about how to get the ball to go in zones 1,2,3,4,5, and 6. Am I right? Well, zones 1,2, and 3 are the ones closest to the net. To get the ball to be short, hit it softer, still hard enough to go over, but it's almost as if you're holding back. To get the angle correct, it all depends on where you hit the ball. Hit it in the middle, it goes straight. Hit it slightly to the right, it goes left. Hit it slightly to the right, it goes left. Make sure your arm still stays straight and that your hand is the one that is turning slightly. When you go for 4, 5, and 6, it's the same thing, but with all your power. Just make sure to not hit the ball out. Hope that helped! Keep playing Vball, it's the best eva!

  8. The more spin on the toss, the better. Wrist snap and follow through (full swing) is vital. If you get all of those down, top spin will come naturally.

Serving it with little spin, as you said, isn't bad. There's one serve that actually calls for no spin. It's called a floater. For floaters or wiggley serves, look for the hole in whch the ball pump goes into, and face anywhere but towards yourself (preferably away from yourself). Then get a nice non-spinning toss, and when you serve, don't snap your wrist and don't follow through all the way. If you get it right (practice makes perfect), the ball will wiggle from side to side or back and forth on it's way over the net. This happens because the side with the pump hole is heavier. So, that side will adjust itself and in the process wiggle like mad. This fools the passers and is a lot harder to pass than, believe it or not, a super top-spun jump serve.

I hope my advice was helpful. keep up the volleyball and I hope all goes well with you!  God bless!

  9. When you throw the ball up in the air make it spin away from you. When you do that it will get a good top spin on it, make it more powerful, and make the ball drop faster.

  10. the way that you cup your hand will determine how the ball go will go, and a way that i would do it would be to throw the ball up in the air, and as your hand is cupped spin it in either direction.
