I found this on wikipedia:

User Account Control

Although UAC is considered an important part of Vista's security infrastructure, as it blocks software from silently gaining administrator privileges without the user's knowledge, it has been widely criticized for generating too many prompts, even for regular tasks like installing software or renaming folders in protected areas. Though Microsoft lowered the prompt level in Windows Vista Service Pack 1, this has led many users to consider it annoying and tiresome, with some consequently either turning it off or putting it in auto-approval mode. Responding to this criticism, Microsoft altered the implementation to reduce the number of prompts with SP1.[65] Though the changes have resulted in some improvement, it has not alleviated the concerns completely.

Ho do I put it in auto-approval mode? It really pee's me off having to aprove every little button I press...

Thanks,

James.

  1. James,

    1. Click Start, type User in the Start Search box, and then click User Accounts in the Programs list.

    2. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    3. Click to uncheck the Use User Account (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.

Note You may have to restart the computer to enable UAC.
