How do I qualify to receive a NYS court appointed lawyer

  1. Contact your county court house, they will put you in contact with the public defenders office.  Be prepared to give wage statements and hopefully show that you can not afford a lawyer.


  2. The public defender's office of the county you reside in will have the forms for you to fill out to see if you qualify income wise.  The amount of maximum $ per month is REALLY low... normally you'll either be on SSI, welfare, homeless, incarcerated, or pretty d**n close to one of those to make the cutoff.
