How do I quit benzo's?

I have been on .5 mgs of xanax once a day for about 2 months, then my doctor switched me to .5 mgs of klonopin once a day so I have been taking that for about 2 weeks. After how miserable I feel between doses, I have decided that I would rather have anxiety and panic attacks than be dependent on these drugs. I quit xanax in the past and it was h**l but I went back on it, so does anyone have any suggestions on how to quit klonopin?

  1. Here's a technique that I learnt to help me get through my panic attacks quickly...

I simply repeat the words 'cream cake' over and over in my head as quickly as I can without stopping.    You could use any word or words you like really but that's what I chose (because I like cream cakes).  It apparently works because it doesn't give your brain time to process the panicky thoughts and so helps you to relax again.  Seems strange I know ... but it works for me!

There's also a free ebook that I found really useful called 'Get Rid of Panic and Anxiety for Good'. If you want to take a look you can find it at: http://curepanicattacks.premiergold.info...    Even though I got it for free it has helped me absolutely loads!

  2. You definitely need to talk to your doctor and see if he can switch you to a non narcotic medicine for anxiety they do have them and xanax are very addictive

    Drug treatment program

  3. If your only taking one a day withdrawl shouldn't be that awfully bad.  Maybe only last a day or two.  I have a friend that can finish off script of 120 of xanax in 3 days!  Then she gets Klonopin from a different doctor and does the same- then she steals her mom's who also gets those meds from different doctors and they fight, always about them pills.  It isn't pretty, best to stop while you are so deep into it as them.

  4. Well definitley wean off of it VERY slowly.. And now that benzos like all meds stay in your body for up to 3 months after you stop taking them, even if it is a low dose.. I give you congrats on wanting to quit as I am too because I am pregnant.. But, my first step is to go talk to my dr about something long term and not as addicting but will help my anxiety tremendously. If you are on it once a day I would say maybe take it every other day for about 2 weeks, then maybe go down to .25 (cut the pill in half I know they are pretty small!!) and do the same every other day.. they make it every 2 days, then every 3 days etc until you feel you can stop. If you stop cold turkey you might have some horrible withdrawal symptoms that may make your anxiety worse.. But I am no doctor so you may want to check with your doctor first.. However, that will be my plan if my doctor says I can wean off of my Lorazepam. Good luck and I wish you all the best!!
