Question:

How do I "befriend" an auto mechanic?

I'm looking to purchase a used car sometime in the next year or so, as I'm in college now.

Everywhere I look for advice, people have been saying to "get the car checked by your favorite auto mechanic for more subtle mechanical errors" and whenever there's something wrong with a car, you should take it to "a trusted mechanic" who won't rip you off.

I don't even have an auto mechanic to take my car to, so I'm asking how one goes about finding a trustworthy garage to meet a trustworthy mechanic.

  1. ask around, people will tell you who the best are...my sons girlfriend is here and she says she always takes her car to the Saturn dealership, even though it isnt a Saturn they fix cars, change oil, and she has always found them to be cheap and honest. good luck

  2. I like the beer answer. but to your Q. Talk to your insurance agent. they continually deal with claims at different places and will probably steer you away from shoddy repair shops. Some are even on referring basis because their clients are continually satisfied with their service. Also the price is more competitive.

  3. Beer is always a good way to make friends with mechanics.

  4. HI

Well you could call the BBB in your area and see if there are any reports on any of the shops around then don't go to those shops.

    good luck

  5. ask around..your friends, the Chamber, or a local

    Business assoc.

  6. they are hard to find these days, but if you do happen to find 1, stick with him and if you take all your business to him, he will use you right. good luck finding 1.

  7. Ask your friends where they go.  Surely you know someone who knows someone.  Ask around!

  8. Before you go to a mechanic make sure you check them out with the BBB
