Question:

How do I "discipline" my 21 month old son?

My 21 month old son is a typical boy. Likes to get dirty and play rough. I understand that he is trying to push me to see what he can and can't get away with. I'm trying to find some advice on the best way to teach him NO. He likes to throw toys and sometimes he plays too rough but he laughs when I tell him NO. He understands what I say to him but he hasn't really started talking yet. Any advice??

  1. it's hard to discipline a child that young. you can just tell him that what he is doing is bad. make sure you don't tell him he is bad. stress that the action he just performed is bad. tell him that it makes mommy upset when he does that. if he keeps doing it, just take the toys away that he throws and tell him he won't be able to get them back until he behaves.

  2. yes once you say no take it away from him

  3. I am in the same boat. What I have been doing is, time outs. It has been really working. I wouldn't give like 5 mins. time out. But one or two mins. is good. My mother in law gave a good rule to go by. If they are only one years old. Then give the  1 min. time out. Just be firm with him. And let him know that you are serious. Don't give up. It will work out.

  4. Hi there i find the best way is to give them a 1 , 2 , 3 and when i get to 3 and my 2 year old does not do as he is told he gets put in his room for 2 mins and then i tell him what he has done wrong and he is told to say sorry. If he says no i say ok another 2 mins and just repeat it until he does. If that does not work then i always find a tap on the hand or taking one of his toys away does the job. If you are out shopping and he acts up don't give him a chance to as soon as you go into the shop keep him happy by giving him a piece of fruit to eat while you shop or give him the food to put into the trolley. Hope this helps.

  5. take the toy away and stop playing with him for a few minutes or get him to sit in a time out. nobody likes to loose their playmate

  6. Take a leather strap to his backside.

  7. ask once, warn once and give consequence third time just put him straight on the naughty chair explain to him why he is there and what he done wrong leave him for a minute you go out of the room after a minute return tell him that he musnt do it again and that you love him give him a kiss and cuddle and then let him of to play. this works for me with my eldest son now 23 months i started the naughty chair when he was 18 months it works a treat
