How do I "mesh" a '40s wedding with celtic or elvish style...?

My fiance wants to wear a zoot suit, which is fine but I am finding it hard to incorporate the "elvish-fariey" look for my dress and the bridesmaids. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do a wedding that is both '40s and elvish-fariey like...

  1. The slinky, silken, sheath dresses of the 40's are ideal for the ethereal elven look. a simple, single-tier slik chiffon veil bound with a circlet of metal, vines or flowers;

    and simple wildflower bouquets would work. Also, strappy sandals or barefeet with toe rings or anklets make great accessories. I've also seen white bridal capes on eBay;

    You can also find great Celtic wedding bands, if you haven't found your rings yet.

  2. I was a bridesmaid in my sister's medieval wedding.  I loved shopping for dresses with her.  We went all out with trinkets, favors, center pieces, cake toppers, etc.  There are a few sites that I found which were very helpful.  Hope this helps :0)

    Elven Wedding

    In a forest deep, gossamer banners flutter gently in the warm breeze. Sweet voices sing haunting melodies as you and your Bride enter the Glen. Under the great trees you exchange you vows and give unto one another rings of precious gold. Then the happy couple will dance the night away as fireflies light the Glen.

    Now as far as I know zoot suits were the rage in the 20's and 30's not the 40's.  They were worn by men in gangster movies, that I know.  When I think of how women in those days dressed I see flappers and swing dancers.  Both styles of dress were to the knee, so you can look for elvish dresses that are cut to that length.  If that is not your style I wouldn't worry about it.  Wear what you feel pretty in.  At all the weddings that I have attended, my focus was always on what the bride and bridesmaids were wearing not the groom and groomsmen.

    Best of luck and congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals :0)
