How do I reattach my rearview mirror?

it was head butted off, just the mirror part - the bit stuck on the windscreen is still as it should be. so it's come off at the swivel part, not cracked or anything, there's a switch at the bottom which retracts the attachment part but still can't push it on, any ideas?

  1. glue it or put some silicone.but really if you go to a car shop they sell special glue tu use on cars

  2. Many petrol stations have a dab of special glue in a tiny tube, and sometimes it has a special square of rubbery sponge to use with it.  About 2 or 3 pounds.

Sorry, I didn't read your statement well.  What he said, but what you need to do is get some plastic like a stiffer type of carrier-bag over the ball, before you press it into the socket.

  3. I had a toyota pickup where the mirror came off of the ball end, which sounds like your problem. I could not reattach it. It had two plates and a s***w that just rattled around in the mirror, and the mirror could not be dissasembled. I just got another mirror from the junk yard and replaced the whole unit. Hope that helps

  4. if the swivel union has come apart, you will not be able to re-attach it and have a mirror that stays in place.  But it would be helpful if you explained what kind of car you have.

  5. You could try putting some washing up liquid on the ball & socket to lubricate it. Then it may just slot back into position with a bit of pressure.

    Good Luck. h
