I have a Sony SR11 Handycam and I am trying to record images from My TV.My Tv is the Samsung LNA650 I have hooked up the AV cables from my camera to my tv and all im allowed to do is project images from my camera to my tv. I also have the mini hdmi cable and also it only allows me to project images to my tv. I need to record whats playing on my tv. I am trying to record gameplay videos of me playing xbox 360 and playstation 3. I know there is a way to do this but I cant figure it out. I also dont want to aim the camera at the tv because tons of video quality will be lost that way. Is this possible?

  1. As you have found, TV's generally do not do AV-OUT. They do AV-in.

You need to get some "Y" cables so the same signal that comes from the xbox goes to the camcorder AND the TV. The Y cables connect to the xbox... one side goes to the TV... the other side goes to a video capture.

    Download your camcorder's manual here:

Since the SR11 does not do AV-in, you cannot do what you want to do. Most consumer camcorders - especially the hard drive and high definition units - do not have the AV-in feature...

  2. Try from your VCR or cable box (LINE OUT) using the "red, white, yellow" cable to the camcorder input.
