Question:

How do I record my own class lectures (audio only)?

I will be teaching several mathematics classes this year, and I thought I would try something different. I want to record my lectures, my explanations, my thought process as I work out a problem in hopes that this will help my students in the long run. I would like to record them (audio only due to privacy issues) and then upload them to our school website available for streaming. What equipment/program do you recommend for me to do this?

  1. You should try liteRecorder. This records streaming radio or audio from any streaming videos like YouTube. You can connect a microphone to your I've tried several programs, and I think you should try at least 3-4 and pick the one you like.

  2. I have a cute and compact SONY ICD-P520. (IC RECORDER)

It is DIGITAL and all the files upload to your computer in MP3 format.  It is easy to use and I record all my classes with it to refer to when I am writing papers and to supplement my notes.  Best 30-50 dollars I spent towards school!

Here is a great site with reviews:

There are other brands and some recorders even play music MP3 files.

There are models that are waaayy more expensive, try to find a rechargeable one maybe?  Mine does eat through AAA batteries like crazy.  I need a new set every 10 hours perhaps.  But it works pretty well considering it's minimal price.

And DO NOT purchase it at a place like Best Buy or Circuit City.  Those places are such RIPOFFS!  In general you can find this product and most others for waaayyy cheaper on sites like Amazon or Crutchfield.

  3. ahh. my mom did this: buy one of those recorders [you can by them at Best Buy, Circiut City, etc;] and record class lectures. Some of the recorders come with software that you can use to edit and even save onto your computer you can can upload it the website.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  4. Hi,

I think you should buy a recorder, not the one of your mobile, because i am sure it will be more clear with a recorder.
