How do I recover deleted files which I have found in search (Vista32)?

Question

I deleted several video files (.wmv and .avi) yesterday (thus they're not overwritten) and I need to recover them. I do a simple search for the previous containing folder, and I can see ALL of the deleted files. However, when I try to play them they do not work (I assume this is because of them being deleted). Is there any way to recover them without using a recovery program?

I have already tried simply adding .wmv or .avi to the end of the file names and that did not seem to work.

no way that i know. those files are either corrupted versions or something is playing up. in any case just use recuva to get the original vids back(its free:) http://www.recuva.com
