How do I recycle cooking oil?

I saw an ad in an article about a program (with website) where they send you a container (small, countertop size for home use). You dispose of your cooking oil in it then return it for recycling. I can't find it via google and can't find the article either. Anyone know anything about this?

  1. Several areas will take used cooking oil.

It can be used to make bio diesel...you can do it yourself but requires you to work with some rather nasty chemicals.

They can also use it to make soap and explosives.

During world warII there were grease drives for these purposes

  2. My grandmother uses the oil like 2 or 3 times before she gets rid of it..

  3. I take mine to the county recycling center right along with my used engine oil.

  4. According to City/Parish regulations, you can put your waste cooking oil in a gallon container (I would imagine that a gallon water or milk bottle will work) and dispose of it by putting it in for regular garbage pick up. Here's a link to the PDF file on line. It's the last page in the PDF, "Unusual Items".

That may not be what you want to do but if you can't find a recyler you at least know what you do now.

  5. yes  it  is  true   cooking  oil as been  refind as  engine oil

  6. Deep-frying turkeys has become very popular. More and more retailers sell deep fryers that range in size up to 30 gallons. Large amounts of cooking oil from home fryers should not be placed in the garbage or poured down the kitchen drain. You can recycle cooking oil either at your curbside; or at Sacramento County’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-Off Center.

Residents can bring used cooking oil to the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Center free of charge, year round. The HHW Drop-Off Center is located at the North Area Recovery Station (4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands) and is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No appointment necessary.

Also, residents may recycle cooking oil at curbside in clear, gallon jugs, with the following guidelines:

Place used cooking oil in a clear, one-gallon plastic jug and tape lid shut.

Do not contaminate used oil by mixing with other fluids.

Do not place oil in the mixed recycling container.

Used cooking oil containers should be placed on ground at least three (3) feet away from the mixed recycling container.

Used cooking oil will be collected on the same day the mixed recycling container is serviced.

Please put out no more than three (3) gallons of used cooking oil per recycling collection day.

  7. replace the used oil in its original container and take to the nearest recycling dump ours takes just about anything contact your local council they should be able to give you full details

  8. If you have diesel, you can turn it into bio diesel.  There is a way to do this, my husband looked this up online: when he had his Fed-Ex business.

Online, look up the words that I wrote below, as there is recipes for this!!

  9. Buy some beeswax and lavendar oil. Strain the cooking oil through a fine cloth to get out any food bits. Heat oil and beeswax (five parts oil to one part wax) until melted and mixed. Remove from heat, add lavendar oil to suit (for scent), pour into pan and allow to cool and harden. Give to friends or sell as the best lotion money can buy. No joke. Try it.
