I've got a lot of old PC parts (hard drives and whatnot), laptop batteries, cell phones, game consoles, DVD players, printers, and other various electronics, but I don't want them to all go to some landfill. What's a good way to get rid of all these things that's at least a little eco-friendly?

  1. Well for all the things you listed that are still in good condition, you can sell them to a pawn shop, and for the computer parts, try giving them to a computer repair shop in your area, and they can reuse them

  2. old cd's and dvd's you can give to daycares, schools, community living centres, libraries, anyplaces that do crafts...many use them to make new craft projects

  3. I would be happy to take the PC parts and printers to see if I can fix things or salvage bits to fix others.

    Thank you

  4. you can find the nearest electronics recycling center here:

    http://www.electronicsrecycling.org/inde...

  5. Burn them in your living room but be sure to keep the windows closed to prevent global warming. Better yet, send them to Al Gore.

  6. I know for your old cell phones and ink from your computer, you can take to the Post Office and they have envelopes that you can send to a place that will recycle them..Its postage paid also. There is a box that has the envelopes sitting on one of the tables...I hope this helps..

  7. The cell phones and related cell phone items you can take to your local YWCA or womens' shelter. They get credit for these and are able to arm victims of domestic violence with a cell phone that goes directly to 911 when they are in danger.

Other items, be sure to try your local 'freecycle.org" group in yahoo groups. I get rid of lots of things that way. Have picked up a few wonderful things as well!

Your town public works may have days when they accept batteries. Check with your local Dept. of Public Works.

    Good luck!

  8. Join "Freecycle" - an online recycling e-listserver.

Goto www.freecycle.org & then type in your local region. Join your local group & then just list the items you want to give away & quite often you'll have lots of people offering to take them straight off your hands & what's more they'll come to collect them from you (usually pretty swiftly ;-) ) too!

One hint though, when you sign up for the emails, ensure you set-up automatic folder-sorting rules on your receiving email account, just to ensure that your main inbox isn't innundated with other like-minded recyclers!

  9. hold a yard sale make some money if not donate to second hand community stores like Value Village or Salvation Army,Jarrett centre(handicap adult used store sales) remember the 3 R's and reuse is one of them

  10. www.earth911.org is a great website that can lead you in the right direction for recycling/reusing all sorts of things.  I know Best Buy usually has drop bins in their entryways for recycling batteries and other small electronics/cell phones and such.  Petsmart also has a mailing program w/ free envelops (free shipping too) near the front of their stores.  I think they just recycle cell phones and ink cartridges.
